* * * *

Bullets rang out, stabbing the beast as they pierced his flesh. The weapons were nowhere near enough. A smile twisted on his lips, the need to destroy making him grow hard.

Death. It beckoned him forward.

He raced toward those shooting at him. He didn’t recall who they were or why they fought him, he only knew they needed to die. Claws extended, he prepared to show them the tragic end they’d asked for in attacking him. He slashed through the first male, cutting the being in half.

A were… something whispered in his mind. A werewolf. Yes, these were lesser creatures, jealous of his strength.

More bullets hit him, but they didn’t slow him one bit. He cut a path through them, leaving a wide trail of more blood and broken bodies. More of the weres came, he’d underestimated their number.

Ropes flung out. They were trying to trap him. He roared, fighting the pull of the bindings. Tearing through some of the rope, they only added more.

A shadow fell over them and suddenly fire reigned around them. Soldiers popped from the trees and blasted the werewolves as Jericho slashed through the ropes. Gunfire sounded over and over, his two enemies fighting one another.

He spied something in the melee…

A scent…

His head whipped to the side. A werewolf fought… a shifter. His shifter. He rushed closer, the need to kill pumping through his veins. He grabbed the werewolf and ripped the creature’s head off. Dropping the head to the snow-covered ground, the body fell, meeting it.

He reached out and grabbed the shifter, the need to kill warring with the need to protect. Confused, he roared into the male’s face, the battle tearing him apart.

Unafraid, the being pressed a palm to his chest. “Jericho?”

He dropped to one knee, his mind aching. He lifted his clawed hands and clutched at the throbbing in his head.

“Jericho? Are you in there somewhere? It’s me. It’s Pablo,” the male said. “I know you know it’s me.”

Another male burst through the fighting and yanked his Pablo away. A roar came again, and he took a step forward, eyeing the weapon aimed his way. Yet, he felt the same need to protect stopping his claws from doing their worst.

The warrior aimed the gun at him, eyeing him close. “Back off of him,” the male spat angrily. “Or I’ll end you here and now.”

He roared in rage, yet he still could not answer the threat as he wished.

Around them, the werewolves were defeated. They lay with the dead he’d already left from the night before.

A bullet hit him, and he growled. Another hit. Another. He dropped to his other knee, woozy. He glanced at his chest… these weren’t bullets as they had been before.

A memory flittered in his mind. Darts…

Another two stung as they pierced his flesh. He roared, sweeping his claws out blindly.

Another.

Another dart.

He lifted his head and gazed at the males. Pablo…

He reached out to his males… but he fell to the ground before he could get to them.
